SEO Agencies in San Francisco: Collecting Evidence
We are collecting San Francisco SEO agencies and checking their work need by need. A ranking opens once enough local agencies document the work; until then each need page shows who serves San Francisco and what is still missing.

Not rankings of their own. Each view shows the agencies ranked above for at least one need, with the score of their best need, and keeps only those that meet one condition: an entry price, a pricing model or a team size.

What the evidence shows in San Francisco
We reviewed 20 SEO agencies in San Francisco. Across 16 buyer needs they hold 832 ranked places, every one of them resting on work we can point to: a case study, a portfolio entry or a client review; 98 of those places are documented by someone other than the agency itself. No ranking here has reached the evidence gate yet.
16 more SEO needs are published for San Francisco but kept out of search until the evidence arrives: Content-led SEO, Local SEO, SEO for High-Ticket Services, SEO for Lead Generation and 12 more. The closest is Content-led SEO, with 88 of the 5 agencies a ranking needs. We would rather show a short list than pad it with agencies that only say they do the work.
Agencies documented for more than one need
These San Francisco agencies hold a top-three place in several rankings at once. Each ranking counts only the claims that match its own rubric, and every one of them is shown on the page it belongs to.

How a place in these rankings is earned
- A need page that still has fewer than ten ranked agencies after that is filled from the city's own agencies whose sources say they offer the need but document no project for it yet. They always stand below every agency with documented work, are labelled "Offers this service; no documented project on file yet", carry lower confidence, and do not count toward the threshold that opens a page to search engines.
- For an intent page, at least one claim on file supports the intent under the page's rubric, and at least one of those claims comes from a source outside Vendar. Our own service listings and profile tags describe the intent but document nothing, so they add weight to a vendor that already has outside evidence and never earn a rank on their own. Vendors without outside evidence appear below the ranking, unranked, never padded into it.
- Rank order is the score, highest first. Ties break on evidence points, then on the number of third-party claims, then alphabetically.
- Every ranked position explains itself from its score components and cites the claims behind them, with their sources.
The full method, including the weights and what closes a page, is published on the scoring page.
San Francisco questions this page answers
- How many San Francisco SEO agencies are ranked here?
- 20 SEO agencies in San Francisco are under review. They hold 832 ranked places across 16 buyer needs, and 26 agencies appear in a top three. An agency is ranked for a need only when a claim on file documents work it did for that need.
- Why are some San Francisco rankings missing from search results?
- An intent page is offered to search engines when its ranked list has at least five evidence-backed vendors (three when the city has fewer than twenty vendors for the service). Only agencies from the city itself (headquarters or a listed service region) with documented work count toward it: agencies filled in from other cities and agencies that only offer the need do not. A page whose list rests mostly on agencies from other cities is titled “agencies serving” the city instead of “best agencies in” it, says how many are local, stays on the city page and in its feed, and is kept out of search engines until enough local agencies document the work; otherwise the same national list would stand behind six city pages. Below the threshold even with outside agencies the page stays published with noindex, keeps its URL, links and feed, and is left out of the city page's list of rankings. A page whose top ten repeats 70% or more of another need's top ten in the same city, or has the same top three, also stays noindex while the stronger of the two is offered; it opens when the lists differ. The same holds across cities: of the pages for one need whose top tens share 70% or more, only the one with the most local agencies is offered to search engines. In San Francisco that applies to 16 of 16 needs, Content-led SEO, Local SEO, SEO for High-Ticket Services, SEO for Lead Generation, AI search visibility, B2B SaaS SEO and 10 more.
- How current is the evidence?
- 221 of 832 ranked places were re-verified within the last 90 days. The newest verification on this page is dated 2026-11-03. Every claim behind a rank links to the source it came from, so any date here can be checked.
- Do agencies pay to appear in these San Francisco rankings?
- Paid visibility never changes the order of a listing.
